You Will Have Impact. Positive or Negative
Recently we talked to a former athlete who was describing a successful High School Coach at his former High School. That coach was a disciple of Buddy Ryan’s defense. He was so good at it that he taught clinics on it. He was strict, harsh, demanding, sometimes demeaning, and very successful. The individual went on to say that at the 20-year reunion, over 1/2 of the guys never talked to him.
You can win if all you care about is the first dimension. Sport will then be transactional. As a result, you will have a trail of damaged relationships.
An influential AD presented to colleagues that he always looks for coaches who are significant. He then said ” It’s hard to be significant and not be successful, but you can be successful and never be significant”.
The 2-minute 12 second video serves as a reminder of WHY you coach, and the impact you are capable of having.
