Know Your Why

As a coach, you spend a lot of time thinking about what you do and how you do it.

But what about your why?

Comedian Michael Jr. tells a powerful story in this short video called “Know Your Why.” While it has nothing to do with sports on the surface, it has everything to do with the heart of coaching.

When you’re clear on your purpose, your actions carry a deeper weight. Athletes don’t just follow your drills or your words—they follow your example. Purpose fuels perseverance. It shapes culture. It inspires those around you. If you aren’t clear on your purpose, then your goals will try to take its place.

But goals were never meant to be your purpose.

Take a few minutes to watch—and as you do, ask yourself: Why do I coach?

Your answer is the foundation for everything else.
