VHSL: Foundations for Coaching in all Three Dimensions

As a first-time high school teacher and varsity soccer coach, I have learned that I must adopt a three-dimensional approach based on each player's skill level. Additionally, I recognize the importance of making internal changes within myself-what I call "coaching of the heart"—to foster good sportsmanship, character, identity, and self-worth in my players. Before the soccer season begins, it's essential for me to have a well-defined plan of action, with safety being my top priority

I loved this 3DI course. It directly confronts our modern, results-based and winning-focused culture (especially as it relates to sport) with a framework and strategies that are meant to point us back to the joy of play and sport without ignoring or diminishing the hardships and adversity that will be encountered in sport and life. I really appreciate the focus on process and strategy, not only for the physical dimension of sport, but also the psychological and heart-level dimensions. The illustration of the differences between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset also feel quite impactful to me, and I am excited to think more and strategize about how I can promote a growth mindset with my team, myself, and my own children.
